Polonnaruwa is an anciant capital of Sri Lanka (1070-1293.). The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site.
In the 20th century scientists found the ruins of this capital. Nowadays the remainings of Polannaruwa’s medieval glory are the tourists’ biggest attraction.
Most buildings were built in the period from 10th to 12th century.
