Polonnaruwa is an anciant capital of Sri Lanka (1070-1293.). The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site. In the 20th century scientists found the ruins of this capital. Nowadays the remainings of Polannaruwa’s medieval glory are the tourists’ biggest attraction. Most buildings were built in the period from 10th to 12th century. You’ll see Lankatilaka temple,Thuparama – chapel for ritual offerings, Sandakada Pahana, Statue at Gal Vihariya, Medirigiriya Vatadage, Nissanka Latha Mandapaya at Polonnaruwa, Polonnaruwa Vatadage, Statue of King Parakramabahu at Polonnaruwa etc.
