Sigiriya

Sigiriya or “Lion Rock” – rock plateau, 370 meters above sea level ,in the heart of Sri Lanka. World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

In the V century BC. King Kasap, fearing the revenge for the murder of his father, built a fortress on top of a mountain Sigiriya, surrounding it by a moat. To enter the citadel unique stairs were constructed – stairs were carved into the jaws, huge paws and mouth of a lion, a symbol of royal power in Sri Lanka. You’ll still see those legs. Sigiriya was surrounded by gardens, pools and one of the world’s first fountains. A gigantic royal throne stands on the plateau.

Frescoes gallery and a “mirror wall”, polished by minerals is a value of Sigiriya . You will see nude dancers, court ladies and princesses.
